How to Plan a Luxury Backyard Picnic (Taylor Swift Style!)
1. Choose Your Taylor Swift Picnic Theme
One of the most fun parts of planning a Taylor Swift picnic is choosing the era or vibe you want to channel.
Whether you’re planning a birthday, Galentine’s, or a just-for-fun Swiftie celebration, picking a theme sets the tone for your decor, playlist, and even outfits.
Here are a few dreamy Taylor Swift picnic party themes to consider:
- Folklore/Evermore – Go for neutral tones, vintage books, pressed flowers, and cottagecore-inspired decor. Think layered lace, dried florals, and rustic wood elements.
- Lover – Bright pastels, heart-shaped everything, and iridescent or glittery accents. This is perfect for a whimsical, romantic outdoor party.
- 1989 – Channel bold pops of color, polaroid photo props, and retro vibes with a pop soundtrack to match.
- Reputation – Want something edgier? Incorporate darker tones like black and metallics, snake motifs, and moody florals.
No matter which Taylor Swift era you choose, try to pick a cohesive aesthetic and let it guide your table setup, signs, and photo props. We chose a soft blend of Lover and Folklore for this setup, romantic, feminine, and timeless.
2. DIY Picnic Table Setup
Before I started my glamping and luxury picnic business, I created all my low boho table setups using wooden crates and simple boards from the hardware store.
With a lace tablecloth or a pretty runner draped over the top, it looks amazing. The effect is just as magical as a custom built table.
To recreate this DIY picnic table at home, here’s what you’ll need:
- 2-4 wooden crates (depending on the table length)
- 24″ x 6′ furniture panel (could also use two 1×12 boards cut to size)
- An outdoor rug or blankets underneath to define the space
- Lace or gauze tablecloth to drape over the top and add texture
Evenly space the crates to create a sturdy base, then lay your board across the top. Once covered with a tablecloth, it instantly transforms into a beautiful low picnic table that feels straight out of a photoshoot. This is still one of my favorite ways to set up a luxury-style picnic table, especially if you’re creating a look that’s elegant, whimsical, and easy to pull together on a budget.
Style Your Picnic Table with Vintage Taylor-Inspired Decor
Now, let’s dive into styling your picnic table! The little touches make all the difference to create a truly magical and memorable setup.
Centerpiece & Table Runner
This day was insanely windy! To hold down the pink cheesecloth runner from the wind gusts, I started with the gold pedestal vase arranged with some faux florals in foam.
Candles and Ambient Lighting
Next, I added six brass candlesticks with pink battery operated taper candles. (Several of them were thrifted, so that’s a great thing to keep an eye out for!) Then along the edges, I placed several small blue votive holders with battery operated tealights.
Disco Balls and Butterflies
Then, some little disco balls and gold butterflies. Glue dots work amazing to keep things in place!

Glassware and Flatware
The beautiful pink tea goblets are Pioneer Woman, and I adore them along with these fun gold paper straws! I think these goblets may find a permanent home in my kitchen.
If the party is taking place earlier in the day, we could set the table with teacups, as it could also lend itself well to a tea party!
For the flatware, I have this pink and gold set, but can also get high quality disposable versions like these!

These gold disposable china plates made perfect “chargers”, and these gold accented paper plates went so well on top. The napkins were purchased a few years back at Hobby Lobby, but this set is in a similar shade!
Favors and Finishing Touches
For the favors at each place setting, we selected from this pack of stickers, and bought pink heart glasses! Then, in these pastel Instax frames, I inserted some printable The Eras Tour artwork.
Add Magical Details with DIY Decor
The vintage picnic basket in front of the teepee holds antique candlesticks topped with disco balls, the pink birthday letter board from Five Below, and a pink floral swag. The teepee is topped with a dream catcher, and a bunch of disco balloons from Walmart!
Fun Taylor Swift-Inspired Activities
Looking for fun ways to keep guests entertained during your Taylor Swift picnic? Here are a few Swiftie-approved activities that will make the party extra memorable!
- Make friendship bracelets – Set up a simple bracelet-making station with alphabet beads, heart charms, and elastic cord. It’s the perfect nod to the Eras Tour tradition!
- Outdoor movie night – Set up a projector and screen for a cozy backyard movie night.
- Sing karaoke – Let the girls take turns belting out their favorite Taylor hits. A mini bluetooth karaoke set is all you need.
- Dance party by era – Create a playlist of songs from each album and let guests dance it out, Swift-style.
- Photo booth with props – Use a pink backdrop and print out some Taylor-inspired photo props from Etsy. The Instax camera is always a hit!
- Swiftie trivia or song quizzes – Keep things fun with printable Taylor Swift quiz games.
- DIY party keepsakes – Offer printable lyric art or eras bookmarks for guests to take home.
These activities made the day so special—and later, the same decor was repurposed for a cozy Taylor Swift-themed slumber party!

With just a few tweaks and some swiftie pillows, this group of girls made more unforgettable memories, singing along to their favorite songs and chatting late into the night. It just goes to show how magical (and versatile!) a Swiftie picnic setup can be.
